Achieve First page result for your chosen keywords
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a service with one main goal - to achieve as many visitors as possible from free search engine traffic. This typically means aiming to achieve first page results for one or more sets of chosen keywords.
There are no defined rules to follow in regards to what needs to be applied to a website in order to appear top of search engines - lots of different developers have lots of different theories (in fact, even amongst our team there are differences of opinion). However, everyone does agree that search engines rank websites on several factors; quality of website, quality of content, crawl-ability and dozens of external factors.
Website quality is gained by using industry standard coding practices, a schematic structure and special HTML tags that have certain meanings to search engines (heading tags for example). A good quality website (in terms of coding, not design) can usually be identified by a minimal amount of source code combined with a high amount of text based content.
Quality content is the easiest factor to qualify. Your websites content needs to contain the keywords you wish to be found for along with any suitable variations, the density and frequency of these words also makes a difference. We can quickly demonstrate the keywords your website is actually targeting - we often find the keywords in the report are different than what you want to be found for. The frequency at which your content is updated also has an impact of the quality rating that search engines will apply.
Search engines, just as with the general public, need to be able to find their way through the website in order to understand what each page is about. As part of an SEO campaign we would ensure that all pages can be reached by the search engine crawlers (bots) and that secondary sitemaps are available for the search engines to process.
External factors, of late, have an equal amount of impact on your websites SEO. Google for example have patented several technologies/techniques that help to qualify the importance of a website - the most commonly known is Google PageRank. Measured from zero to ten, your PageRank score is calculated by (in simple terms) measuring a history of inbound links from other websites to your own - it can take several years to gain a good PageRank score (of four or more). Other external factors include the actual words that people include in the links to your website and how frequently those words change.
Our SEO Service
We focus on traffic increases as often as possible rather than benchmarking success on search engine ranking alone; it can be more beneficial to be 9th or 10th for scores of terms than 1st or 2nd for a few.
We monitor your websites traffic carefully and make a few small changes at a time, we observe the impact and if it proves to be a positive result we amplify those particular changes before moving onto other techniques. This process repeats over several months (occasionally years for some high-turnover websites).
The changes that we make typically take a few weeks to affect the search engine results, because of this we try and schedule work to take place at the same time every month and once the work for a particular month is complete we generate a report detailing the work that has taken place and log traffic levels (so you can see progress).
As part of an SEO campaign we may also introduce Affiliate Marketing, Marketplace Integration, Blogging and Social Network Marketing in order to increase the number of inbound links to your website and improve how important Search Engines consider your website to be.
We will also fully assess your competitors to see where they fall short and to roughly establish what lengths we may need to go to in order to out-perform them.
The amount of time we spend on SEO is negotiable - ultimately it comes down to your goals. With eCommerce websites it's very easy to see the benefits as it has a direct impact on sales, with non-transactional websites we can monitor the number of enquiries placed (but only you can monitor whether they resulted in business or not). We would recommend a minimum term of three months, and would ask that should we be able to continuously increase your traffic and give a good ROI, you work with us until it plateaus out.
If you would like more information on SEO please contact us - remember to include information about where your website is hosted and, if possible, tell us about your current website traffic/website turnover. Whilst working with you on SEO, you may also want us to take over your website hosting - this isn't necessary, but does make things easier.
