Tiny engravings lead to huge site traffic increase
September 23, 2011 | Heddwyn Coombs
The work of master engraver, Graham Shorts is awe-inspiring. Specialising in microscopically small engravings, his work includes the Lord’s Prayer on the head of a gold pin and the message “Nothing is impossible” on the sharp edge of a razor blade.
Recently he engraved a fountain pen with the Stephen Fry quote, “Waggled in the right way this inky little stick can change the world”. He called the piece Fry’s Delight on the Band of a Fountain Pen. It formed the centrepiece of The Writers Collection – an exhibition by Graham Short that was hosted by iWeb client, the Clarendon Gallery in Mayfair.
Mr. Short donated the engraving to raise funds for English PEN – a charity that promotes literature and human rights throughout the world. As a result, Stephen Fry mentioned the fountain pen and linked to Clarendon Gallery web site on Twitter. With his huge following, it led to an 1100% increase in visitors to the iWeb-designed site.
Of course, the work of iWeb in no way compares to the patient genius of Graham Short, but we like to think those extra visitors appreciated the hard work of our web design team too.
